(Menu Boxes - Where They Go)

Although menu boxes may be placed on individual pages, it is generally more useful to place menu boxes that will be used sitewide, or used on multiple pages throughout the site, on Page Masters (rather than on individual pages).  This will ensure consistent navigation throughout your site.

To implement one menu for your site, add a Menu Box to a new or existing page master.

You may also create a page master with multiple menus each at a different level.  Generally,  you will need to create a page master for every level of your site since the deeper levels will require more menus.  Often this is done by creating page masters that "inherit" from other page masters.

Example

To create page masters for two levels you would:

  1. Create a page master which contains a Menu Box whose Folder is the 1st Level menu.  We'll call this page master "Main".
  2. Create a second page master which contains a Menu Box whose Folder is the 2nd Level menu.  Make sure the page master specfied for the second page master is "Main".  We'll call this page master "Level Two".
  3. Make the "Main" page master the Default page master.
  4. In the folders that contain your 2nd level pages set the Page Master to  "Level Two"

Once you do this, all of the pages in your 2nd level folders will have the additional menus for the 2nd level and all of the pages in the root folder will have only the 1st level menu for the pages/folders in the root menu.  Be sure to set as default the correct page in each folder as that is the page that will be linked to in the 1st level menu.
